Vivo V50 Review: Stunning Design, Big Battery & Triple 50MP Cameras — But Is It Worth the Upgrade?

Introduction

Vivo has kicked off 2025 with the launch of the all-new Vivo V50, a sleek and camera-focused mid-range smartphone. The device packs a thin design, vibrant AMOLED display, a massive 6,000mAh battery, and three 50MP cameras with Zeiss optics.

Vivo’s V-series phones are known for offering excellent photo quality and solid all-around performance at a reasonable price. The formula hasn’t changed much over the years — but with each generation, Vivo refines the experience further. The Vivo V40 set the bar high with full water protection and stereo speakers. Now, the V50 aims to build on that success with better durability, display improvements, and enhanced photography.

Design

At first glance, the Vivo V50 looks quite similar to the V40, keeping the familiar curved front and back design with a polished frame. The circular camera housing remains, paired with an oval Aura flash ring — a signature look for Vivo’s V-series.

However, Vivo has made a small but welcome change — the display curvature is now milder, offering a more comfortable and user-friendly experience. It’s less slippery and easier to use than the older, more curved design.

Display

The 6.77-inch AMOLED panel is one of the V50’s highlights. It features a Full HD+ resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+ support, and 10-bit color for vibrant visuals. The screen is protected by Diamond Shield Glass, developed with Schott, promising up to 50% better drop resistance than the previous generation.

In brightness tests, the phone achieved 1274 nits of peak automatic brightness, with localized areas reaching beyond 3000 nits — plenty bright for outdoor use.

Charging Speed

The V50’s 90W FlashCharge is an upgrade from the V40’s 80W system. Despite the larger 6,000mAh battery, charging speeds are still impressive. The phone hits 40% in 15 minutes, 71% in 30 minutes, and reaches a full charge in 46 minutes.

That’s not the fastest in the segment, but it’s more than enough for quick top-ups.

Software

Running on Android 15 with Funtouch OS 15, the V50 promises three major OS updates, ensuring solid long-term support. The UI looks familiar, keeping Vivo’s traditional layout and customization options. While it doesn’t introduce a major visual overhaul, it’s smooth, responsive, and reliable in everyday use.

Performance

Under the hood, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chip returns for the third year in a row. Vivo has opted not to upgrade the processor, using the same one found in the V40 and V30. While this may disappoint spec-chasers, real-world performance remains solid.

The phone handles multitasking, gaming, and everyday tasks without breaking a sweat, offering stable and efficient performance thanks to the 4nm architecture.

Cameras

Vivo continues to focus on camera excellence with three 50MP sensors — two on the back and one on the front. While there’s no telephoto lens this time, the main 50MP camera (with OIS) and ultra-wide shooter deliver excellent detail and color accuracy.

Photos come out sharp, vibrant, and well-balanced even in overcast lighting. The Zeiss partnership enhances color tone and contrast, and the 4K video recording with OIS + EIS ensures smooth footage.

Verdict

The Vivo V50 doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but it perfects an already winning formula. You get:
A premium curved design
Triple 50MP cameras with Zeiss optics
A big 6,000mAh battery with 90W charging
A tough new Diamond Shield display
IP68/IP69 durability

Sure, it keeps the same Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chip and familiar software look, but the refinements — better protection, bigger battery, and upgraded optics — make it one of the most polished mid-range phones of early 2025.

The Vivo V50 is a refined, reliable, and camera-strong midranger — perfect for users who value design, display, and photography over raw performance.
