Vivo V29 Pro – Stunning Design, Powerful Cameras – But Is It Worth the Price?

Introduction

Vivo continues to expand its premium midrange lineup with the vivo V29 Pro, a smartphone made in India and inspired by Indian design aesthetics. Much like its predecessors, this one puts a major emphasis on photography — but with smarter lighting, better portraits, and a sharper display.

The phone carries forward the ā€˜Aura Light’ concept, now with an upgraded 15.6mm circular LED ring that adjusts color temperature automatically based on lighting conditions. Vivo says it’s 36% brighter than the last generation.

And while the 2MP macro lens from the previous V27 Pro is gone, it’s replaced by a far more useful 12MP telephoto portrait camera, a first for the V-series. The display also gets a high-resolution 6.78-inch AMOLED panel (1260x2800px), delivering sharper visuals than most phones in its price range.

Design

Gone are the flashy UV-reactive paint jobs from older models. The V29 Pro takes a sleeker approach this time, available in Himalayan Blue and Space Black. The blue version features a wavy design inspired by the Himalayas, giving it a stylish, nature-inspired look.

The glossy back attracts fingerprints easily but offers a decent grip. The large camera island and the distinct Aura Light ring make the phone instantly recognizable — and a bit of a showstopper.

Display

The 6.78-inch AMOLED display is one of the highlights of this phone. It packs an impressive 1260x2800px resolution with a 120Hz refresh rate and 2160Hz PWM dimming, making it ideal for smooth scrolling and flicker-free viewing.

Brightness is strong too — 532 nits manually and up to 1,029 nits in bright sunlight — ensuring clear visibility outdoors. It also dims down to just 2.2 nits for comfortable night-time use.

Battery Life

Powering the phone is a 4,600mAh battery, similar to the V27 Pro. With the Dimensity 8200 chipset, the phone delivers reliable endurance, lasting easily through a full day of web browsing, video playback, and light gaming.

Performance during gaming is solid, though rivals like the Poco F5 slightly edge it out.

Charging Speed

The V29 Pro comes with 80W FlashCharge support, but surprisingly, charging speeds remain nearly identical to last year’s 66W model. The phone reaches 39% in 15 minutes, 69% in 30 minutes, and hits 100% in 50 minutes — fast enough, but not faster than before.

Software

The phone runs Funtouch OS 13 based on Android 13, with two major OS updates and three years of security patches promised.

Funtouch OS continues to offer its unique spin on Android, with customizable recent apps layouts, a refined notification shade, and strong theming options. It’s not stock Android — but it’s fluid and easy to use once you get the hang of it.

Performance

The MediaTek Dimensity 8200 powers the V29 Pro, paired with up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Built on a 4nm process, the chipset brings near-flagship performance with efficient multitasking and reliable gaming results.

The HyperEngine 6.0 suite enhances gaming by optimizing resources and improving frame rates. The phone runs cool and handles demanding apps with ease.

Cameras

The V29 Pro is clearly a camera-focused phone. It packs:

  • 50MP main camera (Sony IMX766, OIS)
  • 12MP 2x telephoto portrait camera (Sony IMX663)
  • 8MP ultrawide camera
  • 50MP selfie camera

The main shooter captures vibrant, detailed photos with great low-light results. The new portrait telephoto lens is a game changer — perfect for professional-style portrait shots with excellent background blur and clarity.

However, the ultrawide camera lacks autofocus, so it can’t double as a macro lens. Still, the overall setup offers one of the best photography experiences in its segment.

Verdict

The vivo V29 Pro is an impressive midranger that flirts with flagship territory. Its sleek design, brilliant display, and excellent camera setup — especially the portrait telephoto — make it stand out.

But it’s not without compromises. There’s no stereo speaker, no wireless charging, and no official IP rating, even though the cheaper V29 has one.

If you’re a photography enthusiast looking for a stylish, camera-centric phone under a premium midrange budget, the V29 Pro is a great choice. But if features like stereo audio or water resistance matter more, some flagships at a similar price may offer better value.
